Challenge

Building a Reliable Real-Time Tablet App for Drilling Staff in the Oil and Gas Industry

The challenge in this project was to build a real-time tablet app for drilling staff on the rigs of oil and gas clients. The goal of the app was to help execute real-time workflows for the staff safely and reliably, even in situations where network connectivity was poor or non-existent.

The biggest challenge was to provide a military-grade robust real-time data system that could deliver data reliably in all circumstances, including offline mode. This required the development of a system that could operate seamlessly, even in harsh environments and challenging conditions, such as on offshore drilling rigs.

To overcome this challenge, the development team needed to consider the unique requirements of the oil and gas industry, such as the need for real-time data transmission, offline capabilities, and robust security measures. They also had to consider the technical limitations of the drilling environment, including limited bandwidth and connectivity issues.

In conclusion, the challenge in this project was to build a real-time tablet app for drilling staff in the oil and gas industry that was robust, reliable, and capable of delivering real-time data even in the most challenging environments. Solution

Custom Tablet Mobile App with Real-Time Data Synchronization

To address the challenge of building a reliable real-time table app for drilling staff in the oil and gas industry, the development team chose to build a custom tablet mobile app on the Kony framework. The app was built using MS SQL Server to support the execution of reliable workflows and data synchronization.

To ensure reliable data transmission even in situations where network connectivity was poor or non-existent, the development team built a custom persistent real-time communication layer using Socket.io and SQLite. This layer was integrated with Kony's inbuilt offline data synchronization feature, providing a robust and reliable solution for real-time data transmission.

The resulting tablet mobile app was designed to meet the unique requirements of the oil and gas industry, including real-time data transmission, offline capabilities, and robust security measures. The app provided drilling staff with a reliable and efficient tool for executing workflows and managing data, even in challenging environments and conditions.
