    The challenge

Who they are and what they needed

Tech Mahindra's client, an offshore drilling company, runs an established application that crew on its oil rigs use on tablets. Tech Mahindra brought in Bluelupin to add reliable real-time communication to that application.

On a rig, shifts change and people move between tablets. A message or task sent to someone has to reach them at once, and still be there when they next sign in.

Add real-time, persistent messaging and task assignment to the client's existing crew application, without replacing it.

    01

    Instant delivery

Messages and tasks reach crew members the moment they are sent.

    02

    Nothing lost between sign-ins

A crew member joining on a tablet sees every earlier message and assignment.

    03

    Tasks for the right person

Assign a task to one staff member and have it reach that person.

    04

    Inside the existing app

Work within the client's established application rather than replace it.

    How we delivered

Team, timeline, and steps for this project

A team of three delivered the real-time layer in six months in 2023, working inside the client's established crew application.

    1. 01

      Map the crew app

We worked through how rig staff use the existing application and where messages and task assignments needed to flow.

    2. 02

      Wrap the socket server

We built a wrapper around the Socket.IO server, giving the application one dependable interface for real-time communication.

    3. 03

      Persist every message and task

Messages and task assignments are stored as they are sent, so nothing depends on the recipient being online at that moment.

    4. 04

      Deliver on sign-in

When a crew member joins on a tablet, their earlier messages and tasks load first, then new ones arrive live.
